RST Solutions Superskin used to coat QLD coal transport wagons

January 30, 2014

Leading Australian dust suppression and soil stabilisation company, Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST Solutions) is providing its RT4 Superskin solution for use in the rail wagon veneering process at a Queensland coal mine rail loading facility.

RST Solutions is working with Queensland based civil engineering company Shadforths Civil Contractors that has designed and built the new rail wagon veneering system at the coal mine’s Rail Loading Facility, located in Queensland.

Formulated as a crusting agent for material transport veneer coating, RST Solutions’ RT4 Superskin is diluted in water and sprayed directly onto the surface of loaded coal on top of uncovered bulk coal wagons, mitigating potential dust emissions with its advanced Polymer Surfactant Technology.

The innovative water-based dust suppressant crusts and binds the coal’s surface layer to create a durable veneer coating that prevents the movement of dust and fine particles throughout the transportation phase.

Through one automated spray application of RST Solutions’ RT4 Superskin solution during the loading process, fine coal particles are tightly suppressed as the water dispersive polymers dry up. This process ensures dust is physically contained as the coal rail wagons travel from pit to port, in support for compliance with Queensland’s Coal Dust Management Plan and meeting the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection’s standards.

Reynolds Soil Technologies (RST Solutions) operations and technical director David Handel explains Shadforths’ latest engineered spraying system allowed RST Solutions to tailor their advanced technology to develop a veneering solution that was fast-acting, durable and environment-friendly.

RST Solutions’ cutting-edge Polymer Surfactant Technology (PST) allows for the veneer coating to be ultra-concentrated, offering a significant reduction in all chemical requirements and providing a cost-effective alternative to rail wagon covers.

According to Mr Handel, the RT4 Superskin product is a highly effective, non-hazardous dust suppressant specifically developed for the minerals transportation industry.

Comprising of the latest in eco-friendly chemical technology, RT4 Superskin is both easy and efficient in application and is also a cost-effective alternative to covering the coal wagons with materials and lids. The strength and durability of the RT4 Superskin solution will also prevent the veneer coating from cracking throughout the journey.

Leaders in dust control solutions for ‘pit to port’ operations, the Queensland-based company has been treating mine site dust emissions on a global scale for over 25 years’, continually developing the latest technology and products for use by major mining houses.

RT4 Superskin is a part of RST Solutions’ ground-breaking polymer surfactant product range, which also features the innovative RT5 Superskin product for exposed stockpiles and its latest solution, Avenger for haul road operations.

Mr Handel explains that all dust suppressants are ultra-concentrated co-polymer formulations, combining RST Solutions’ unique polymer surfactant technologies with advanced nano technology, ultimately assisting mining companies with reduced costs, water conservation and lower overall dust emission levels.

He added that RST Solutions’ dust suppressant solutions are extremely competitive against other products on the market, as they deliver effective results, while significantly reducing overall product and freight costs.

RST Solutions has more than 25 years’ of experience specialising in total dust management, soil stabilisation and erosion, water for mine sites, civil projects, ports and land sites in Australia and overseas.

The company’s head office is based at Burleigh Heads, Queensland with an additional office in Western Australia. RST Solutions’ international operations extend to regions including South and North America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Europe.
